Né à Paris en 1927, Jean-Pierre Blanche grandit dans le Sud de la France où il découvre très tôt le dessin et la peinture.
Formé à l’école des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier puis de Paris, il construit dès les années 1950 une œuvre profondément liée aux paysages qu’il traverse et habite.
En 1965, il s’installe à Aix-en-Provence. Ce territoire devient dès lors le centre de près de cinquante années de pratique assidue, toutes techniques confondues. La ville, ses alentours et leurs lumières constituent le socle d’une recherche picturale ininterrompue.
À partir du début des années 1970, son installation dans une bastide de l’arrière-pays aixois, à Pont-Rout, marque un tournant décisif.
Depuis ce point d’ancrage, Jean-Pierre Blanche parcourt inlassablement le pays aixois : la ville, l’arrière-pays, le plateau du
Cengle, la Sainte-Victoire, À travers ces paysages, il développe une pratique exigeante, oscillant entre exploration de la lumière et
recherche de structure.
L’hommage présenté par Renk’Art s’articule autour de cinq œuvres emblématiques, issues de cet univers. À partir des jardins de
Pont-Rout et de leurs prolongements vers le Cengle, elles donnent à voir deux versants majeurs de son travail : d’un côté, une approche sensible de la couleur et de la lumière, vibrante et lumineuse au pastel ; de l’autre, un travail plus serré, graphique, tendu, au fusain et au crayon, au plus près des lignes et des tensions du paysage.
Ces œuvres témoignent d’une recherche menée tout au long de sa vie : celle d’une peinture attentive au monde, à ses variations, et à la relation intime entre regard, lumière et composition.

This year, the Renk’Art organizing committee has decided to pay tribute to Jean-Pierre Blanche (1927-2022), a painter from Aix-en-Provence, whose works are featured in numerous museums and private collections.
Born in Paris in 1927, Jean-Pierre Blanche grew up in the South of France, where he discovered drawing and painting at a very young age.
Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier and then Paris, he began, in the 1950s, to create a body of work deeply connected to the landscapes he traveled through and inhabited.
In 1965, he settled in Aix-en-Provence. This region became the center of nearly fifty years of dedicated practice, encompassing all techniques. The city, its surroundings, and their light formed the basis of his continuous artistic exploration.
From the early 1970s, his move to a country house in the Aix-en-Provence hinterland, Pont-Rout, marked a decisive turning point.
From this base, Jean-Pierre Blanche tirelessly explored the Aix region: the city, the surrounding countryside, the Cengle plateau, and the Sainte-Victoire mountain.
Through these landscapes, he developed a demanding practice, oscillating between the exploration of light and the search for structure.
The tribute presented by Renk’Art is structured around five emblematic works from this world.
Based on the gardens of Pont-Rout and their extensions towards the Cengle, these works reveal two major facets of his practice: on the one hand, a sensitive approach to color and light, vibrant and luminous in pastel; on the other, a more focused, graphic, and taut work in charcoal and pencil, closely following the lines and tensions of the landscape.
These works bear witness to a lifelong quest: a painting attentive to the world, its variations, and the intimate relationship between observation, light, and composition.
